Night out with Eric
We got a sitter at the last minute last night, so we could go check out a neighborhood restaurant and catch a movie too.
We had a ton of fun with many hearty laughs, catching up with our good friend Eric. Always a good time! :)

Couch potato
Today I've been directed to be a couch potato all day. No sitting, standing, driving, bending, twisting, and most importantly, lifting (which my kiddos will never really understand). Just rest, horizontally, as much as possible. If you ask my doc, he'll say don't worry, she's an old pro at this, she knows the routine.
It's true, unfortunately I do.
I was trying to remember how many injections I've now done, since my first big flare up with my back 4 yrs ago... I figured I've probably been in about once a year. I wasn't too far off, since I just noticed on my wrist band, the number of visits now totals 5 (including today).
Today's injections were much easier for me to handle than last time around. Partly because there were only two injections, instead of four, but also because my pain has been less severe and more localized than my last flare up.
I'm still very sore and experiencing some discomfort, but nothing like before, so I consider it a win! I'm planning to lay low this week and take my time getting better, but I'm hoping the recovery will be pretty uneventful and I'll be back to my old normal self once again in a week or two! :)

Lazy Sunday
Logan verified today was NOT a school day, which means we can all laze around in our pjs watching Netflix all day. ;-)

A future gamer
Logan was very excited to play a game of Blokus tonight. I was surprised at how quickly he picked up the rules and stuck to it! :)

Cutie pie
Callum's teacher texted me a pic of him over lunch. Love that they send us pics of our little guys! :)

So you think you can dance!
There's a dance studio at the boys' school where they sometimes have classes going on as we leave.
Tonight the boys hung out and watched for a bit and then decided to join in and copy some of the moves the girls were practicing. :)

Happy birthday Robert!
I can't believe Robert is now 5. These kids are growing up so fast!!
(I quickly snapped this as I was jumping from behind, so it's blurry but I still kinda like it!) :)

Just another Saturday...
We went to see Jon play in a rugby game this morning. Just finished up swim class now. And will be heading out to Robert's birthday party next! Whew! :)

Ears all clear!
We went for Callum's regular check up today and his ears look great! Both tubes are now out, though one tube is still hanging out in the ear (not a concern).
Callum doesn't need to wear his ear plugs anymore during bath time, but should still keep them in if he goes swimming until the last tube has completely fallen out. Yay! All great news since he's not a big fan of the ear plugs at all.
We'll go back in a few months for a hearing test and another check up in the winter time to make sure his ears are still healthy and no more infections. :)

Loganism of the day
Mommy, what's a smart ass?
What you're being right now.
No, *you're* a smart ass!

Our house is not your canvas
Jon and I have been taking advantage of the kids getting older and playing with each other more, by sleeping in, on the weekends! It's been glorious and I'm looking forward to even more of these relaxing moments where the kids can keep to themselves.
However, we do have to still keep an eye on them, as evident yesterday morning after we got up and noticed Callum had found a few stray crayons, with which he decided to decorate our living room. He drew along the floor, the train table, train tracks, and worst of all, the couch!!
I spent a good 30 minutes bent over scrubbing the be-jesus out of everything to get rid of each mark. Luckily, crayon does remove as long as you put your arm and back into it.
Not so lucky for me, my back has actually been on the fritz for the last couple of months, and the last couple of weeks my poor back has gone off on the deep end (I haven't had much time to talk about it here, but I'm now back to PT twice a week, religiously stretching morning and night, and icing my back as much as possible when not at work). :(
Anyway, since Callum is still pretty young, it's hard to punish him for something we've found several hours after the fact. Still, I made him walk into the room with me, pointed to each area he marked up and talked to him very sternly about how it was NOT okay to be drawing "art" all over the floor, tables and couches. He knew he was in trouble, but probably didn't get the full severity of it.
We had a long night last night since both Callum and I, as well as Jon and Logan, all got home late last night. On top of that, Logan woke up in the middle of the night with another bloody nose (it happens probably once a week or so), and then couldn't sleep well on his own after that, which kept both Jon and I up pretty much all night.
So, once again, we let our guard down and allowed the two boys to play on their own in their room in the morning, while we caught a few more zzz's. So, I guess I shouldn't be TOO surprised when later in the morning, while getting ready to leave for a birthday party, I noticed the living room was decorated with the all-too-noticeable hand of Callum. Apparently we didn't find all the crayons he had used yesterday!! :(
This time, he was punished and sent to his room - where he bawled his eyes out and two minutes later passed out on his bed. Hopefully he (and we) will learn eventually.... :)

Moveable Feast
Callum and I were home on our own last night while Jon and Logan went to the Jodoins' house (Callum's been battling a fever this past week so we didn't want to take any chances with friends).
So instead, he and I met up with my parents to check out the latest Bay Area craze - food trucks! With Moveable Feast, each night there's a different location with different food trucks to sample from - last night's was the largest in the area, called The (San Jose) Night Market. There were about 20 different food trucks, a large area for seating (nothing fancy, just upside down paint buckets!), plus a couple of rows of arts & crafts booths and then a couple local DJ's blaring some music for the kids to dance to (super cute).
My parents had actually just been to another set of food trucks for lunch, so we deliberately tried different trucks for dinner. :) We had some tasty thai at House of Siam (I think we all agreed their "roti bouquet" was delicious) and then also had a kimchi fried rice burrito at the BBQ Kalbi truck. Dad liked the burrito more than Mom and I, but that probably has to do with the fact that neither of us are huge kimchi fans! ;-)
Callum was fascinated by all of the lights, trucks, people, music and dancing. It was very festive and while he started to get pretty clingy, tired and delirious toward the end of the night, he actually hung on quite well.
Here's a few quick pics I took with my phone, to share. I can't wait to try out some of the other locations and to bring Jon and Logan with us next time too!

My parents had already eaten at The Chairman over lunchtime so we skipped it, but I will definitely be checking it out next time around! :) |
People - EVERYWHERE! (many lines were insanely long!) |
My tired kiddo, losing steam.... |
A kid and a crazy old guy, dancing to some tunes. The kid was the cute. The old guy - not so much. ;-) |
Gorgeous sunset, gorgeous CA weather! :) |
