We spent the morning lazying around eating beignets and baguettes in bed (not actually in bed, but it felt like we should’ve been!) π
Around lunchtime, we sauntered out to a yummy sandwich place (Cosi) around the corner from our place - and then to catch our ride out of town!
Originally, I thought we were set up pretty nicely, being just a few minutes away from the Saint-Michel Notre Dame station, where we could catch a direct train out to Versailles, no hassle. Alas, I discovered yet another train station closure due to renovations, which meant a bit of last minute logistical juggling to figure out how to get to another station to take us out of town! π¬
Luckily, we made it all in one piece (yay!), however when we arrived, the line to ENTER THE PALACE was literally 1.5-2 hours long, snaking through the entire plaza out front (boo!). π± Soooo, we hit up the gardens first and walked our butts off! Part of the reason the Palace was so packed, I’m sure, was because today was a special “musical water show” day amongst all the fountains (I’ve added a video of one of the shows as a comment). Though the crowds were a little nutty, I have to admit that strolling the gardens while listening to lovely music was a fine way to spend the afternoon. πΆ
After a couple of hours, we headed back to the Palace where there was a MUCH smaller line (yay!), yet we were still somehow squished between a few pushy tour groups, which made touring the rooms a little claustrophobic and annoying (boo!). π© Sadly, that sort of squashed the mood for the boys and they started feeling like they’d “seen one palace, they’d seen them all”, I think.... All that said, they still had a great time overall and were glad we visited. π
Logan wanted to try a pizza in France, so we found a yummy little pizzeria to eat at for dinner, before catching our train back into the city. Of course, once we got back to our ‘hood, Callum insisted we grab dessert - and who were we, to deny our boys another sampling of fresh French crepes? π
This pic only barely captures how ridiculously long the entrance line was! |
Snacking on their leftover sandwiches in the shade (it was damn hot). |
Check out the crowds! And this was "light".... after all the major crowds had gone in!π€·π»♀️ |
In 7th heaven! |
